Gravesend RFC Triples 19/9/10
This event was and open event, but only Kent League players from Leagues 4 and below were qualified to take part, and they attracted an entry of 14 teams which was a fine effort for their first attempt. They had plenty of pistes available even if some of them were a bit on the rough side, but there were plenty of other facilities available, and a very good day was had by all
Alan, Peter and Rob entered as the Share and Coulter and Les brought along his wife Pat and George Birks playing as the EKCPL Wanderers, and surprise, surprise, we were drawn in the same league! Both teams played well enough in to get through the morning session and into the Gold league phase in the afternoon after we had enjoyed a convivial lunchtime break in a local hostelry in the company of Mo and Jack Milner. Les and company qualified for the final but Alan, Pete and Rob just failed to make it despite a record of winning two games and losing one to 11.
The EKCPL Wanderers contested the final against three ladies from Hartley, playing as "Old Spice" and were in the awkward position of being 2-10 down, and then proceeded to fight back and win the final and the prize money! Well done and congratulations to all!!
It was good to see some absolute novices to the game taking part and thoroughly enjoying themselves; one team of newcomers gave us a real fright in the first game of the day, and more good news that the Mayor of Gravesend charity received £150.00 from the event
