Classic Triples - Lordswood 12/9/10
A team of four; Alan, Bob, Peter and Rob went to Lordswood on a fine and sunny Sunday morning to a well-organised and popular event to make the happy discovery that the first opposition was Rowland, Marcus Hickman and Kevin Spillett!! Rob wasn't down to play this game and went off to get a bacon sarnie and before he'd even got it we'd lost 1/13. This rather set the tone for the rest of the day and the day ended with the less than impressive statistics of played 5, lost 4.
We had the opportunity to watch the TenTen speed version of petanque which was very interesting and sometimes amusing and was won by an outstanding team from Holland who later in the day went on to beat Rowland and Co in the quarter-final of the main event. Don't imagine that this will challenge the traditional version of the game and might prove to be a bit too energetic for most teams in the EKCPL!
We left just as the semi-finals were starting, and even if we didn't play as well as we had hoped we all had a thoroughly enjoyable day when we renewed aquaintance with lots of players we all knew when we were previously in the Kent League.
